The Falgarwood Project: Two Bathroom Renovation in Oakville

Project Overview

The Falgarwood Project involved renovating two bathrooms in an older split level home in Oakville, with each space requiring a different approach.

Upstairs, the homeowners had a small main bathroom beside an equally small ensuite. Since only two people live in the home, maintaining two compact bathrooms was less important than creating one larger, more comfortable and functional space.

On the lower level, the existing bathroom layout worked, but the dark finishes, vessel sinks and vanity setup no longer suited the homeowners.

Maxime Kitchens and Baths Inc. renovated both bathrooms in approximately five weeks, including significant plumbing and electrical updates required within the older home.

Project: Falgarwood Project
Location: Falgarwood, Oakville, Ontario
Project Type: Two bathroom renovation
Home Style: Older split level home
Timeline: Approximately 5 weeks
Main Bathroom Style: Mid century modern
Lower Level Goal: Brighter, more functional and updated
Completed: Summer 2026

Creating a Larger Main Bathroom

The original upstairs layout included a small main bathroom beside a small ensuite connected to the bedroom.

Neither bathroom provided the space the homeowners wanted.

Because only two people live in the home, they decided that one larger bathroom would be more useful than keeping two smaller bathrooms upstairs.

The wall separating the two spaces was removed, allowing the bathrooms to be combined into one larger main bathroom.

Redesigning the Layout

Combining the two bathrooms opened up new possibilities for the layout.

The new shower now occupies approximately the width of the former ensuite, creating a much larger and more comfortable shower area.

All of the plumbing for the main bathroom had to be relocated to accommodate the new design.

The finished layout gives the homeowners significantly more usable space while making the bathroom feel more open and functional.

Mid Century Modern Design

The design direction for the main bathroom was mid century modern, with warm finishes balanced by clean, contemporary details.

Features include:

  • Wall hung Teodor Vanities vanity finished in walnut

  • Large walk in shower

  • Accent wall tile for added texture and depth

  • Riobel faucets

  • Heated towel bar

  • Completely redesigned plumbing layout

The walnut vanity brings warmth into the room, while the textured tile adds visual interest without overwhelming the space.

One of the homeowners' favourite features is the size of the new shower.

Lower Level Bathroom Renovation

The lower level bathroom did not require major changes to the existing layout.

Instead, the goal was to update the aesthetic and improve functionality.

The original bathroom featured darker finishes and vessel sinks that the homeowners found less practical for everyday use.

The renovation included:

  • New cabinetry

  • New tile

  • Updated plumbing fixtures

  • Kohler toilet

  • Vogt faucets finished in polished nickel

  • Textured wall tile above the vanity

  • Euro inspired painted floor tile

The updated finishes created a brighter and more inviting space while keeping the existing bathroom footprint.

The homeowners especially loved the new overall aesthetic of the lower level bathroom.

Addressing Older Plumbing and Electrical Work

Renovating an older home can reveal work that needs attention once the walls are opened.

In the Falgarwood home, much of the existing plumbing and electrical had previously been completed by a former homeowner and needed to be cleaned up and streamlined.

The upstairs bathroom required the most extensive work because of the new layout.

All of the main bathroom plumbing was relocated, while the plumbing connections in the lower level bathroom were updated within the existing footprint.

Addressing these underlying details helped ensure the finished bathrooms were not only visually updated, but properly completed behind the walls as well.

Completed in Approximately Five Weeks

Both bathrooms were renovated in approximately five weeks.

While the projects were completed together, each bathroom had a different objective.

The main bathroom focused on creating more space and completely redesigning the layout.

The lower level bathroom focused on improving functionality and modernizing the finishes while working within the existing footprint.

The Finished Result

The Falgarwood Project transformed two dated bathrooms into spaces that better suit how the homeowners use their home.

Upstairs, two small bathrooms became one spacious main bathroom with a large shower and more functional layout.

Downstairs, the existing bathroom was refreshed with new cabinetry, plumbing fixtures, tile and brighter finishes.

The renovation also provided an opportunity to correct and streamline older plumbing and electrical work throughout both spaces.
